Mixed Company Theatre produces innovative, socially relevant drama as a tool for positive change.  Founded as an artist-run collective in 1983, this nationally recognized not-for-profit today uses Forum Theatre and interactive arts to educate, engage and empower audiences in schools, communities and workplace.

In 1983 MCT began as an artist-run collective. Our initial milestones included: • Touring to festivals in 4 countries • Producing the International Ripple Effect Festival in 1998. After over 2 decades we developed as advocates of participatory theatre. We became active members of the Theatre of the Oppressed(TO) community and attended Pedagogy & TO (PTO) conferences across the world. This phase helped us clearly define our mandate – to leverage the power of theatre as a tool for social change. As of today, MCT has created over 160 Forum Theatre and Community Arts productions. Our milestones are: Youth Our anti-bullying production Showdown was seen by over 350,000 students, followed by Project Actif for the Francophone community. In 2015 and 2016 we created and toured the sexual consent show Mixed Messages and teenage anxiety production Half Full reaching over 13000 youth. Seniors We have had 4 successful productions addressing elder abuse through Life Gets in the Way, Old Age Ain’t for Sissies, Shelf Life and the upcoming Spring Moon. Indigenous groups and Visible Minorities We developed and trained members of the indigenous community in the Six Nations reserve and in 2015-2017 worked exclusively with youth and seniors of the Chinese immigrant community. These milestones have helped us streamline our work and emerge as experts in bringing social issues to the fore, engaging diverse communities in dialogue and action around their realities. Awards won: • Four city awards for Community Safety and Social Just • Five Dora Mavor Moore Award nominations.
