Abused Women's Resilience Centre
The Abused Women's Resilience Centre provides emergency shelter, counselling, and practical support to women and children escaping domestic violence in North York and the GTA. The organization operates a safe house where residents receive trauma-informed care, safety planning, and help navigating legal and housing systems. Counsellors work with women to process their experiences and rebuild confidence while case managers connect them to long-term housing, employment training, and community resources. The centre also runs prevention programs in schools and workplaces to educate about healthy relationships and warning signs of abuse. Staff are trained in responding to complex trauma and understand the barriers women face when leaving violent situations, including financial dependence and fear. The organization recognizes that recovery takes time and provides services tailored to each woman's unique circumstances and goals.
