Little Forest
Little Forest operates community gardens and green spaces across North York and the Greater Toronto Area, teaching residents how to grow food and native plants while rebuilding local ecosystems. The organization converts underused urban land into accessible gardens where children, families, and newcomers learn about soil health, composting, and biodiversity through hands-on programs. By creating these outdoor learning spaces, Little Forest addresses food security, environmental education, and community connection simultaneously. Their work focuses on increasing tree canopy coverage, reducing stormwater runoff through permeable gardens, and establishing habitat corridors for pollinators and wildlife in neighborhoods where green space is scarce. Volunteers and staff lead workshops on seed saving, organic gardening, and ecological restoration that engage hundreds of residents annually.
