THE OSGOODE SOCIETY FOR CANADIAN LEGAL HISTORY
The Osgoode Society for Canadian Legal History publishes and promotes scholarship on the development of Canadian law and legal institutions from colonial times to the present. Based in Toronto, the society produces books, journal articles, and educational materials that examine how law has shaped Canadian society, with particular attention to constitutional history, criminal justice, Indigenous legal traditions, and the legal profession itself. The organization supports academic research through grants and fellowships, hosts lectures and conferences featuring leading historians and legal scholars, and makes historical legal documents accessible to students and researchers. By documenting how Canada's legal system evolved, the society helps lawyers, judges, policymakers, and citizens understand the historical foundations of current legal practices and institutions across the country.
