ROOTS OF EMPATHY
Roots of Empathy brings babies into classrooms across Toronto and the GTA to help school-age children develop emotional intelligence and reduce bullying. Trained instructors guide students through structured visits with a local parent and infant, encouraging observation and reflection on the baby's feelings, needs, and development. By spending time with a real baby over the school year, children learn to recognize emotions in themselves and others, practice perspective-taking, and build social skills. The program reaches thousands of students annually in elementary schools, targeting a critical period when children are developing their capacity for empathy and connection. Research shows participants demonstrate increased prosocial behavior, reduced aggression, and stronger relationships with peers and adults.
