BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF CLARINGTON
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington pairs volunteer mentors with children and youth who lack positive adult role models, focusing on those facing challenges or living in low-income households. Based in Bowmanville, the organization matches caring adults with young people ages 5 to 18 for one-on-one relationships that typically last several years. Mentors spend time together doing activities the youth enjoys, whether that's sports, arts, homework help, or simply hanging out. Research shows these matches improve school attendance, reduce substance use, and boost self-confidence and academic performance. The program serves the Durham region and carefully trains both mentors and participants to build meaningful connections that provide stability and guidance during formative years.
