Card for Change / Carte pour le Changement

Card for Change distributes prepaid cards loaded with funds to people experiencing homelessness and financial hardship across Toronto, allowing them to access money with dignity and autonomy. Rather than restricting aid to specific purchases or locations, the organization trusts recipients to make their own decisions about food, shelter, transportation, and other essentials. The prepaid card model removes barriers to accessing support that exist with traditional voucher systems, while also protecting recipients from theft and providing a safer alternative to carrying cash. Card for Change operates on the principle that direct financial aid, combined with respect for individual choice, is one of the most effective ways to support people working toward stability in the GTA.
