ERNESTINE'S WOMEN'S SHELTER

Ernestine's Women's Shelter provides safe housing and support services to women and transgender people experiencing homelessness in Etobicoke and the Greater Toronto Area. The shelter offers emergency accommodation, meals, counselling, and assistance with accessing employment, education, and health care. Staff work with residents to develop individualized plans that address the underlying causes of their homelessness, including trauma, addiction, mental health challenges, and domestic violence. The organization prioritizes dignity and choice in its approach, recognizing that each person has unique needs and strengths. Ernestine's also advocates for systemic changes to address the root causes of housing insecurity and works to challenge stigma surrounding homelessness and poverty in the community.
