Project FoodChain works to reduce food waste while addressing hunger in Toronto and the GTA by connecting restaurants, grocers, and caterers with surplus food to community organizations that serve low-income residents. Rather than letting edible food go to landfills, the organization coordinates logistics to move fresh produce, prepared meals, and other items from businesses to food banks, shelters, and meal programs. Since its founding, Project FoodChain has rescued and distributed millions of pounds of food, diverting waste from disposal while strengthening food security for vulnerable populations. The charity operates a network of partners across the region and provides training to help participating organizations safely handle and distribute recovered food. By closing the gap between food surplus and food shortage, Project FoodChain creates a practical path toward a more equitable and sustainable food system.
