STEER Friends

STEER Friends provides educational support and mentorship to students in Stouffville and the surrounding GTA communities who face barriers to academic success. The organization connects youth with volunteer tutors and mentors who help build foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, and life competencies. By pairing students with consistent adult role models, STEER Friends works to increase school engagement, boost confidence, and expand opportunities for young people who might otherwise fall behind. The program operates through schools and community centers, focusing on students from lower-income families and those dealing with learning challenges. Through one-on-one relationships and small group instruction, STEER Friends addresses both academic gaps and the social-emotional factors that affect student achievement.
