Volunteer Readers Programme

Legal name: VOLUNTEER READERS PROGRAMME

Volunteer Readers Programme sends trained volunteers into Toronto schools and community spaces to read aloud with children who need extra literacy support. The volunteers work one-on-one with students, helping them build confidence and fluency through regular reading sessions. Many of the children served come from families where English is a second language or where access to books and reading time at home is limited. By pairing struggling readers with patient adult mentors, the programme addresses literacy gaps early and helps children develop a lifelong connection to reading. The volunteers receive training to work effectively with different age groups and reading levels, ensuring sessions are encouraging and age-appropriate.
